O Prósfigas (The Refugee) - from the new album Diamanda Galás In Concert O Prósfigas was popularized in 1977 by the Greek Gypsy singer Manolis Angelopoulos. Galás lays bare the horror and loss at its center. O Prósfigas is not just a paean to refugees, but a memorial to the willfully ignored Anatolian Greek genocide of 1914-23. Not an isolated atrocity, but the culmination of the then newly-forged Turkish state’s eradication of the Greek, Assyrian, Armenian, Yazidi, and Azeri peoples from Asia M

LORD OF ILLUSIONS: DANCING IN THE DARK Clive Barker came to an LA show of Galás to discuss his film, Lord of Illusions. He asked Diamanda for a new interpretation of the theme song, Dancing in the Dark (Schwartz/Dietz). Diamanda recorded a new version singing and playing the piano, working with the great engineer Blaise Dupuy. The recording appears at the end of the film. Later, Diamanda visited Clive at his home in LA and saw many of his drawings. They were exquisite. “When the tape from New Yo

Pardon Me, I’ve Got Someone To Kill - by Johnny Paycheck - from the new album “Diamanda Galás In Concert” “It’s unusual to experience Galás’ voice so unadorned. Her arrangements are always thoughtful, emphasizing and complementing her power, so it’s not as simple as hearing a voice ‘raw’ - Galás’ voice is always raw… and it’s the cracked, imperfect down and dirty interpretations that stand out.” - Claire Biddles, The Wire Sept 2024 Listen to Pardon Me, I’ve Got Someone To Kill: https://youtu.be/

Charles Baudelaire’s poem from Les Fleurs du Mal (1857), ‘Les Litanies de Satan’, is centrepiece of Galás’ album of the same title (The Litanies of Satan, 1982), and it’s to Les Fleurs du Mal that she returns for ‘L’Héautontimorouménos’.
